Southwest MI (June 25, 2019) – The Southwest Michigan Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) is hosting a regional ‘Meet the Buyer’ event to educate companies on how to do business with government purchasers.

The “Meet the Buyer” event will take place on Thursday, June 27, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:30 p.m. at Western Michigan University’s Fetzer Center located at 2450 Business Court, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49008. Check-in will be from 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.

“Meet the Buyer is a great opportunity for businesses to expand into the government marketplace by meeting one-on-one with several buyers and business resources in one afternoon” said Kara Stewart, program director of the Southwest Michigan PTAC.  The first half of this year’s event will provide information about working with the City of Kalamazoo, which has numerous projects scheduled for the coming year. Those in attendance will learn how to best work with the City, and information on several changes to their purchasing procedures will be provided. Immediately following the presentation, those in attendance will have the opportunity to briefly meet one-on-one with various buyers present at the event.

Buyers scheduled to participate at the event include: City of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services, Grand Rapids Community College, Lansing Community College, State of Michigan DTMB, TACOM Small Business Office, U.S. Property & Fiscal Office-MI, and Western Michigan University. For sub-contracting opportunities, attendees can meet with CMS Group, Stryker Corporation, and the Kellogg Company.

In addition, the following small business resources are planning to attend:  Michigan Works! Southwest, Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council, Pure Michigan Business Connect, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Small Business Administration (SBA), SBA at TACOM, Vet Biz Central, and the Southwest Michigan PTAC, which assists businesses with selling products and/or services to the federal, state, and local governments.

Attendees should bring business cards and capability statements for meeting with buyers.  Businesses with questions or those that need assistance with capability statements should contact PTAC at ptac@upjohn.org.
